This is a large antique carved veranda bench. A Ceylonese, solid teak 3 seat ornate seat, dating to the 19th Century period, circa 1880. Exceptional craftsmanship to this superb showpiece bench that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Delightfully robust and solid teak with an impervious nature. Deep russet and caramel hues accentuate the profusely carved stocks. Arranged as a three seat bench, with a trio of ornate field panels to the back rest. Nine mystic figures adorn the crest rail, three sitting prominently atop a shaped pediment. Foliate decor plentiful, with striking relief carvings abundant across each surface. Square section arms stand proudly upon a carved Ath Kadha Lihini of Sri Lankan mythology. Seat edges host relief carved borders with attractive flowerheads to the corners. Fascinating shaped aprons adorn the tiered seat edge, with foliate patera and leaf motif. Standing upon prominent elephant front legs, canted and in the cabriole manner. Square section rear legs adorned with pattern carvings below a decorative panelled rear.
