Description
Extremely historic and original heavy mid/late 19th century solid bronze West African slave bangle (Manilla) with good, natural patination. Better than the 'usual' examples to be found, the present bangle on offer exhibits a reeded edge and vernacular style decoration to the middle and terminals and is in very good overall condition showing, as expected, a wonderfully darkened colouration with some lighter highlights to the extremities. The bangle measures 12cm (outside diameter) and the slave bangle term is historically derived from the function of this type of bangle as a currency to trade slaves. Please feel free to email any questions.
