Large Hester Bateman Antique Georgian Silver Basket

This is a lovely swing handled sterling silver basket made by Hester Bateman and hallmarked in London 1784. It is in very good condition with no repair or damage just normal light surface usage marks. Hallmarks are clearly struck and it has been made with a thick gauge of silver. Of plain design with the only decoration being reeded pattern to the handle and upper and lower rims. In the centre of the basket there is a crest incorporating a rams head. It stands firmly on a raised oval shaped base. A fine and large silver basket from the matriarch of the famous Bateman family of Georgian Silversmiths (NB any shadows shown in photographs are merely reflections).
