A beautiful late 17th century English joined oak coffer featuring richly carved panels with diamond and rosette motifs beneath a decorative lunette frieze. The panels are divided by barley-twist muntins, giving the chest strong decorative presence and classic period character. The lid opens to reveal the original interior with traditional till compartment, historically used for storing coins, documents or small valuables. Hand-forged iron hinges and early construction details remain intact, confirming its genuine age. Originally used as a household storage chest for linens and bedding, today this versatile piece works equally well as a coffee table, hall bench or decorative storage chest. The oak has developed a deep colour and patina over centuries of use and has been carefully cleaned and waxed to revive its natural warmth while preserving its historic surface.
