In virtually pristine antique original condition, this is a most handsome and rare late 17th Century hanging wall cabinet, or 'Mural Cupboard'. Built of iron hard oak and elm it has a rectangular raised fielded panel door enclosing a compartment with 2 original shelves; and a deep full width drawer below. The top, base and sides are of nailed adzed plank construction and the facing frame and door are pegged and tenon jointed. It has a deep moulded cornice, and facing edge to the drawer, picked out by a half round moulding around the drawer. The iron butterfly hinges are original and the escutcheon and ring handles look to be original too. Iron lock and working key. Superb crusty black patina. Internally the shelves are 15cm deep and the base depth 22cm Shelf heights from top - 15cm, 8cm, 8cm
