Late 18th Century Dutch Walnut Marquetry Shaped Display Cabinet

Late 18th Century Dutch walnut marquetry shaped display cabinet, of typical Dutch bombe form, this fine piece consists of a glazed upper section, the glazing bars having been removed at some stage, over a series of three graduated drawers with their original plate handles and escutcheons. The piece has a raised cresting and, at its base, a serpentine apron above carved paw feet. The wooden surfaces of the piece are decorated throughout with fine quality floral marquetry, something of a signature of the Dutch makers from the 17th century onwards. The cabinet is glazed on the side as well as the front, meaning that it was certainly designed as a china display cabinet, the two shaped shelves inside also demonstrating the original purpose of the piece.
