Late 19th Century Carved Chinese (red Amber?) Mythical Dog Guardian

This is a late 19th Century / early 20th Century Chinese carved mythical beast (known as Karashishi, Lion dog/; Dog of Fo or Buddhistic Temple Guardian) quite possibly carved from red amber. The heavy, well carved beast has his opened mouthed head overtly displaying his teeth and is turned turned to dexter and is of obviously very fine quality and observing the images posted, it is also obvious to discern the many 'inclusions' within the piece that is held to the light. The original carved and hardwood stand is also of very fine quality and patinated colouration and the images really do speak for themselves here with nothing really more to say. The beast strides confidently forward with his tapering, faux bamboo style tail wrapped around his back. A very interesting and truly individual example coming, originally as it does, from the private collection of an exceptionally noteable London based family.
