Description
A good quality late Georgian mahogany Pembroke table, dating to around c.1800–1820. The table is of useful small proportion, with twin drop leaves opening to form a practical rectangular top, and closing neatly when not in use. The timber has a good mellow colour throughout, with attractive figuring across the top and leaves, the old surface marks now well polished in and forming part of its character. The table is fitted with one proper end drawer, with a matching faux drawer to the opposite end, each with a small brass knob handle. It stands on pleasingly proportioned ring-turned legs, terminating in brass castors which add considerably to the character and quality of the piece. The table is a very practical and versatile size, suitable as a side table, lamp table, small writing table, sofa table or occasional dining table. A charming and usable period table, retaining a good sense of originality, with attractive colour, useful proportions and decorative brass castors.
