Description
A quality early to mid Victorian sterling silver Scottish plaid style memorial brooch, circular and with 8 various agate sections forming the circle, each with a thin section of silver dividing it from it's neighbour. The agate colours are green, red, gray, orange and shades of these colours with banded and mottled patterns. The centre is a glass fronted hair compartment containing hair, which is an original fitting, as made. No marks or stamps, which is normal for Scottish jewellery of this age.
Period; 1820s to 1850s, as the fashion for hair memorial jewellery was fading at this period.
Just short of 2 inches across and weight is 30 gram, which is heavy for this style of brooch, silver safety chain.
All is good, though bear in mind that it is between 200 and 170 years old.
