Description
Very long yet narrow vintage (or possibly antique) kitchen table made some time between 1920 and 1950, we think, most likely 1940's as it has the look of utiliity furniture but before it all went formica. This may have been a school bench at one time, though it doesn't bear any of the marks you associate with that. It'd make a great dining table for a long thin space but could equally be used almost as a work surface. The condition is pretty good: structurally nice and solid; one long stretcher on the frame is a bit bowed, though the thick heavy beech top doesn't seem too affected by it; a little up and down movement there is all. We'll put a little bracket underneath to support it. The gap is about 1cm in the middle (hard to see in the pics). The top just sits in locating notches in the base; its weight is enough to keep it in place. The piece of wood under one leg in the pics is because of the uneven ground! Cosmetically there are plenty of scuffs and marks and so on, as expected with the age. We sugar soaped the top to remove the worst of the coffee rings and so on, but there's still evidence of life there.
