Description
Rare striking shelf clock by Japanese clock maker Takara. The clocks nicely proportioned boxed Japanese Cedar wood case has a a wooded plinth, floral designed apex and a full length hinged, arched front glazed door. The doors glazed tablet is reversed hand-painted in a summer floral scene and decorative brass half-columns and other cast garniture surround the outside of the door. The clocks white dial has the Takara trademark and surrounded by a brass bezel. It has black hand-painted Arabic numerals and black hands secured by a threaded collet. A well-engineered 10-day spring driven pendulum movement drives the mechanism, which is in fine working order. It is set between two skeleton brass plates and strikes its coiled gong on the hours and half-hours with a deep and clear 'tang'. It comes with a unique pendulum and a steel winding key.
