A superb pair French Art Deco green patinated bronze figural bookends by renowned sculptor Max Le Verrier (1891-1973) dating from 1930/40's. The bookends portray a seated gentleman holding bags on money on his lap while the other shows a shoe maker busy at work seated and leaning against a fence. The theme for these originates from the second book published by La Fontaine in 1673 titled The Cobbler and the Financier.
