Mid 19th Century Solid Bronze 'Grand Tour' Candlestick

Mid 19th Century solid bronze two handled candlestick most probably acquired as a souvenir on the well-documented 'Grand Tour' when custom dictated that the young wealthy elite and nobility undertook a tour of the cultural 'hotspots' and capitals of Europe (with Italy as a key destination) and further afield with a view to learning about Art and Classical Culture primarily from the 17th to the mid-19th century. The very heavy candlestick is finely cast with strapwork and scrolls and upon close inspection, two concave (match) striking rasps can be seen to the edges with pointed (in Moorish style) handles flanking and further decorated with strapwork. The bronze has a removable brass insert and two very well cast pierced handles which attach to the upper and lower parts of the urn-shaped central circular candle holder and the bronze is raised on a recessed circular foot. In very good and honest original condition, the candlestick measures 8.5 cm high and is 11.75 cm (widest, at the base). A very nice and usable genuine antique with a very desirable overall dark patination to the bronze.
