Description
Minerva half hunter pocket watch which has a 15-jewel (4 adjustments) stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the arrow in a circle, the mark of the Minerva Watch Company. This is a good quality movement with Geneva stripes to the plates, a swan neck regulator and a Breguet hairspring for enhanced precision. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a surface scratch.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case was the Russell model from the Illinois Watch Case Company. This tells us that the movement and case are not original to each other, the whole movement may have been replaced as a more economical repair option.
The case has a small central lens to the front, surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals. The case is in good condition, just some general surface marking and slight unevenness to the back of the watch.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. The acrylic lens has very light marking but very acceptable.
The dial is in lovely condition. It has the special half hour hunter hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed. One of the hands is a period replacement.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
