Description
These are a pretty unique pair of oak chest of drawers following on from the Arts & Crafts and Cotswold school; Here we have a pair of high end, very classy, understated but very stylish chest of drawers. Note how the drawers hide the usual way that a drawer sits on the horizontal bearer. This is part of the design. Therefore the drawers are very carefully and skillfully constructed to obtain this feature. The moulding on the top and the curved drawer sides together with the highly unusual handles would draw one to believe this was all of the above. Please see my listing for a pair of Betty Joel bookshelves. As one is labelled and the other isn't. One can see where I'm going with this. In the right setting; these will shine.
Please note . during this period of design many designers were aware of the progress using new materials .
There were forward thinking designers and architects like ; Paul R Goldman ,Serge Chermayeff to name just two .Together with the use of materials like plywood new and exciting furniture designs were achieved.

condition
As per photos both untouched. Both been dusted and hoovered. The stickers to be removed. The old finish can be revived and refinished. Alternatively the two chests could be completely stripped; its what is underneath that is the concern. One would find the reason why certain finishes were applied to certain timbers. The backplates to the handles are metal. One turned knob is loose and needs a new screw. Two minor dents in the top of one chest .Needs pointing out. Blemishes, imperfections, signs of us; very obvious and slightly tired. Nothing too drastic. One drawer may have a slight bow which can be pulled in or left alone. Time will tell over the next few weeks as this will be monitored. Both chest are structurally sound. Some drawers stick a bit and easily rectified. So pretty good condition. These can be bought as found; as per photos or restored.
£1250 fully restored.
