Nicholas II - Large 1896 Coronation Medallion - 64mm - A. Vasyutinsky

This is a large commemorative medallion measuring 64mm and weighing just over 130g commemorating the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife. Inscription is as follows: “Императоръ Николай II и Императрица Александра Феодоровна” “Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna” “Коронованы 1896 въ Москвѣ” “Crowned in 1896 in Moscow” Medallist is A. Vasyutinsky and his signature is just below the effigy of Nicholas II. In terms of composition - I am uncertain however one particular edge knock would suggest silvered bronze. This is well-worn and has seen some knocks and scrapes but is nonetheless rare. There is also some residue on the central shield - see in particular to the right of the horseman’s back - it does clean off a little but have left it - I suspect this is why the shield if a little worn as someone has tried before.
