Outstanding George III Moonphase Longcase Clock

Clockwise is delighted to present a fine eight day George III moonphase longcase clock having just enjoyed full and sympathetic restorations performed to the case, dial and movement. Dating from circa 1820, in truly lovely condition and standing 2.21cm (7 feet 3 inches) tall to the top of the centre finial, the boxwood and dog-tooth strung oak and mahogany case is in truly fabulous condition surmounted by an arched hood supporting a brass finial and paterae. Plain pillars with brass capitals to top and bottom flank the hood door to the front. The trunk contains a lovely inlaid boxwood-strung door which retains its key and lock, and the clock stands on pedestal feet below the base which has matching stringing. The 12.5 inch arched oak, dial is signed 'Jno Wignall, Ormskirk' and is in gorgeous condition being a fine example of a painted dial with floral patterns and gesso to the corners and further floral patterns to the inner dial. A working seconds sub-dial and date window along with original blued steel hands help complete the handsome appearance. The working moon dial has alternating pictures of a sailing warship and country scene. The four pillar, rack-striking, eight day anchor escapement movement has been fully refurbished with new lines provided and the clock strikes the full hours on a beautifully mellow bell. The movement is in stunning condition as you can see from the pictures and benefits from my three year guarantee. John Wignall was born in 1778, in Banks, Lancashire, England, his father, John Wignall, was 40 and his mother, Betty Abram, was 35. He married Mary Peet on 5 September 1804, in North Meols, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in North Meols, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom for about 10 years. He died in 1858, in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom, at the age of 80.
