Pacific Islands Tapa Bark Cloth Painted Geometric Shapes

Wonderful large tapa bark cloth with beautiful painted geometric shapes. An original one-off handmade piece typical of the South Pacific Islands, possibly made in Samoa, Tonga or Fiji, and with its 1.8 meters long, is a fantastic piece of wall art. Tapa is made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, dried on the sun, soaked and then beaten on a wooden anvil, a process followed for hundreds of years to this day, tapa is nowadays mainly used in ceremonies like weddings. Good condition for age and nature of piece, there are signs of age and wear as expected, creasing from being folded, expect the odd small hole however none is obvious, some fraying at the edges, please check and zoom on detailed photos provided.
