Pair Antique William IV Mahogany Chairs from York Minster
A very good quality pair of antique William IV mahogany side chairs or library chairs dating from circa 1830 from York Minster. They have flame figured mahogany top rails with carved gadrooned edges over intricately carved and pierced centre rails with acanthus leaf designs. The chairs have turned front legs and sabre back legs. The drop-in seats have been fairly recently upholstered in a red leather. Solid and sturdy, with good patina, would make wonderful desk chairs or side chairs.
These chairs were purchased from York Minster, and were in St Williams College. Founded in 1460, St William’s College is a Mediaeval building in York, England, originally built to provide accommodation for priests attached to chantry chapels at nearby York Minster.
