Pair of Early 19th Century George III English Elm Country Chairs 1800–1820

A characterful pair of early 19th century English country chairs, dating to the George III period, circa 1800–1820. Predominantly constructed in elm, with typical mixed secondary timbers, each chair features a solid plank seat and a pierced splat back, offering a slightly more decorative variation on the traditional country chair form. Well proportioned and practical, the chairs retain an attractive, settled surface with good colour and grain, consistent with long use. The darker tone is entirely in keeping with utilitarian Georgian seating of this type, particularly where mixed timbers were employed, and contributes to their honest, workmanlike character.
