Description
A fine pair of black leather and brass simulated bamboo table lamps attributed to Jacques Adnet. French Circa 1955 These fine lamps are conceived in the mid-century chinoiserie manner, the central supports being rendered in the form of simulated bamboo canes covered in leather with contrasting gilt brass rings at various points on the stem. The lamps stand on tripod bases, also covered in beautifully stitched leather. The leather survives in remarkable original condition, testament both to the quality of manufacture of the pieces and the way that they have been treasured by their owners over the past 70 years. The contrasting saddle stitching used on the leather covers provides both a decorative accent and also real strength and integrity to the design, typical of Adnet's attention to detail. Jacques Adnet (1900-1984):- Originally an interior designer, Adnet turned to designing furniture for his own projects in the 1950s and these designs won for him a lasting acclaim which continues to this day. Adnet was particularly famous for his use of leather in his designs, giving his pieces a sense of understated luxury, and the present lamps are typical of the quality of manufacture and design that were hallmarks of his productions.
