Pair of Spode Felspar Porcelain Dessert Plates, Pattern No. 4033 1825-1830

A beautifully preserved pair of early 19th CCentury Spode dessert plates, dating to circa 1825-1830, and made in the factory’s celebrated Felspar porcelain—one of Spode’s most important technical innovations of the Regency period. Introduced in the early 1820s, Felspar porcelain incorporated feldspar into the body, resulting in a particularly smooth, refined surface with enhanced strength. It was highly prized at the time and widely used for high-quality tablewares. These plates are decorated in the elegant and enduring pattern no. 4033, later continued by Copeland & Garrett. Each features a finely hand-painted central bouquet of naturalistic flowers, delicately composed with great painterly skill and soft colour transitions. The borders are richly embellished with a repeating gilt and iron-red ornamental design, framed by a crisply moulded gadrooned rim with additional gilded detailing—giving the plates a refined yet decorative presence. To the reverse, both are marked with the pattern number and bear the Spode mark. A particularly attractive and usable pair—equally suited for display or to elevate a refined table setting.
