Description
The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a charming inscription, ‘Presented to John Edward Eastmond by the Directors of the Southern Railway Company in recognition of his courageous action in saving a passenger from serious injury at Clapham Junction on January 31st 1933’. John was from New Alresford in Hampshire. He was 46 years old at the time of the incident.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1931, with a maker’s mark for the English case maker Aaron Dennison. The front and sides of the watch are in good condition, some fairly gentle unevenness to the back.
The winding crown pushes in to open with your thumb nail. Inside there is an acrylic lens with a gold plated bezel. The lens is in good condition, there is some white natural light reflection showing in the main photo.
The dial is in good condition with blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
All prices include UK postage (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).
Please contact us regarding international shipping costs. Some countries do not allow the importation of antiques / watches / precious metals. Please contact us prior to placing an order if you are unsure about your country and we can check this for you. The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
