Description
An exceptional open-faced fusee pocket watch, by London watchmaker William James Grimsley, of 352 High Road, Leyton, London. This fine heavy and robust watch, hallmarked Chester 1898, was crafted specifically for the executive level of railway sector by Grimsley, who was renowned for producing watches of the highest quality for the sector. The watch has a Grimsley signed fusee movement, numbered “152523”, with a London steel regulating indicator bar, compensated balance, and diamond end stone. The watch case numbered “309743”, has gold hinges with a white enamelled dial with subsidiary second’s dial and gold hands. (Nb: Engraved into the belt and buckle cartouche are the initials “Hjg, 1899” - the first owner of the watch maybe?) The watch comes securely packed with a winding key, together with instructions on how to wind and set the watch time. Note: This watch does not come with a chain or fob.
