Pocket Watch Chain Acorn Fob Victorian Pick Pocket Anti Theft Device 1890s

Original Victorian Gentleman's pocket watch chain pick pocket anti theft device fob in the form of an acorn. Rare - I don't often say this but in the past 40 years have only come across one other of these. Measures; 2.4cm height (including the two end rings), 1.2cm diameter and weighs a respectable 3.5 grams. (Pocket watch chain shown is for display purposes only and NOT included). Highly detailed acorn form fob which is a brilliant piece of Victorian ingenuity - made to be attached between the dog clip and next link of a watch chain so when a pick pocket (they were rife in the Victorian era) tried to snatch the watch by pulling the chain it would put pressure on the fob thus quickly releasing the three sharp spikes (watch you fingers) which in turn would snag into the material of the wearers jacket / waistcoat pocket thus rendering the watch from being pulled out. I have shown a 'mock up' of the fob fitted to a watch chain - ensure it is located correctly with the spike end facing the chain (not towards the dog clip). Complete with the two original top and bottom brass rings. Excellent clean and bright condition with absolutely no wear or damage and just a micro bit of extremely light overall patina commensurate with age (looks to have never been used).
