With antique chain. Dial: The white enamel dial has black Arabic numerals with outer minute divisions. The dial has chased gilt style hands and a subsidiary second’s dial at the six. The dial is signed in the upper centre: “Mora” which is Louis Brandt’s trade name for the Scandinavian market (see History Below) Movement: The high grade fifteen jewels, club lever escapement movement has a plain cock with polished steel regulator and over coil hairspring. The movement is numbered: 5266903. The movement is in excellent working condition as it just came back from the watchmaker. However, we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique watch. Case: The watch lies in a silver 0.800 and rose gold outer layer open face case with a mint engine turned and monogram free. The inner side of the case is stamped for silver 0.800 and signed Louis Brand & Freres numbered: 6011207. The silver cuvette shows different medals and is decoratively signed: “MORA, Grand Prix Paris 1900”. History: Louis Brandt and Mora: Louis Brandt founded his watchmaking business in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, assembling pocket watches from components supplied by local craftsmen and selling them throughout Europe. After his death in 1879, his sons, Louis-Paul Brandt and César Brandt, expanded the company under the name Louis Brandt & Frère, modernizing production and establishing a large factory in Biel/Bienne. In 1894, they introduced the highly successful Omega movement, known for its precision, reliability, and ease of servicing. The movement became so popular that the company eventually adopted Omega as its principal brand and later its corporate identity, forming the foundation of today’s Omega SA. The name Mora appears to have been one of the trade names used by Louis Brandt & Frère on certain pocket watches, particularly for export markets. Therefore, a watch signed Mora on the dial and Louis Brandt & Frère on the movement can be considered part of the historical lineage that ultimately became Omega.
