RAF Sector Clock

A historically important RAF sector clock. A walnut case with a cast brass bezel and bevelled glass. A 14” original dial with the RAF laurel emblem and blued steel hands. An original winding key. The 8-day, precision fusee mechanism is marked G.B.E for Grimshaw, Baxter and Elliott (1909-1921). They later became the Elliott clock company from 1923. They played a significant role in the British war effort during World War II, producing specialized clocks for the military, particularly the Royal Air Force along with aircraft parts. Most sector clocks are for the WW2 period, this is the rarest of all being circa 1920. This was just after the RAF was formed from the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). These Sector clocks are arguably the most famous, designed with a specialized dial to assist air traffic controllers and fighter command in monitoring the movement of aircraft.
