A historically important WW2 period RAF sector clock. A walnut case with a cast brass bezel and bevelled glass. A 14” original dial with the RAF laurel emblem and blued steel hands. The original case bottom lock, key and winding key.
The 8-day, precision fusee mechanism is marked F.W Elliott Ltd. England. It is numbered 18399 and marked for the year 1941. F.W. Elliott Ltd, based in Croydon, London, played a significant role in the British war effort during World War II, producing specialized clocks for the military, particularly the Royal Air Force along with aircraft parts.
The case inner has an original label marked ‘KENLEY FOR BUILDING 16’. Kenley aerodrome was one of the 3 vital WW2 bomber fighter stations.
These Sector clocks are arguably the most famous, designed with a specialized dial to assist air traffic controllers and fighter command in monitoring the movement of aircraft. They were crucial during the Battle of Britain.
