Description
Rare 8-Inch English 8-Day Chain-Driven Fusee Mahogany Dial Clock (Circa 1900)
An exceptional, highly sought-after piece of Edwardian British horology. While most antique English station and school clocks feature large 12-inch or 14-inch faces, this rare example boasts a compact 8-inch dial. This smaller "library" or "office" size is incredibly scarce, making it highly collectible and perfect for modern interior spaces.
Driven by a premium 8-day single-chain fusee movement and encased in rich, beautifully figured mahogany, it is a flawless blend of mechanical engineering and timeless British design.
Why This Clock is Special:
• Rare 8-Inch Size: Considerably harder to find than standard large dial clocks; highly prized by collectors.
• Chain-Driven Fusee: Features the reliable, traditional steel chain variant rather than a gut cord.
• Versatile Decor: The compact diameter allows it to fit into smaller wall spaces, alcoves, or studies where larger clocks would overwhelm.
Key Specifications:
• Period: Late Victorian / Edwardian, circa 1900.
• Origin: Made in England.
• Movement: Authentic 8-day single-chain driven fusee timepiece movement.
• Dial: 8-inch painted dial with crisp, traditional Roman numerals.
• Case: Solid mahogany surround with a side access hatch and a bottom curved door for pendulum regulation.
• Bezel: Heavy-gauge brass bezel with a locking glass face.
• Hands: Original, finely shaped blued-steel hands.
Condition & Working Order:
• The Movement: Fully operational, ticking strongly, and keeping excellent time. The chain-driven fusee mechanism functions smoothly.
• The Dial: The 8-inch painted face is original and exceptionally clean.
• The Mahogany Case: The wood has a deep, warm honey-patina with stunning grain. Shows only minor, authentic signs of age.
• Accessories: Sold complete with its matching winding key and original pendulum.
Shipping & Secure Handling:
• Worldwide tracked and insured shipping available, or local collection from Gloucestershire
• Packed to professional standard: the pendulum will be safely detached and wrapped separately to ensure zero damage to the movement during transit.
