Rare Antique Victorian Solid Silver Sugar Sifter / Caster Spoon with Figural Terminal - 1854

We are delighted to offer this unusual and unique Victorian solid silver sugar spoon made in London 1854. The maker's mark is slightly misshapen but is likely for Francis Higgins. Despite the article being a 'simple' sugar sifter spoon, this particular example is full of character and interesting stylistic elements that make up an almost sculptural overall design. The bowl of the spoon presents a beautifully pierced and parcel-gilt design which leads to a cast-silver stem section with two fish on either side. This section is embellished with fish scales and a triangular shape. The terminal of the spoon features an ornate figural section with what appears to be a lady with two infants. A highly decorative yet practical piece of silverware, ideal for sprinkling caster sugar on some desserts or paring with an ornate sugar bowl for display.
