Description
Peter and Jonathan Bateman were the sons of the famous Hester and after her retirement continued the business. Their mark was registered in London 1790 but unfortunately Jonathan died only 5 months later and so this particular mark of the Bateman family is much sought after. Peter continued with the business after Jonathan's death in partnership with his widow Ann.
On offer is a sterling silver nutmeg grater which is clearly hallmarked in 3 places. It retains the original steel grater which is accessed by the top and side opening on a hinge which works perfectly. Oval rather than cylindrical shape it sits firmly its base and is quite plain with no decoration or initials.
This is certainly a collectors piece.
