A rare early antique Victorian (c.1850) double-folding quill cutter / pencil sharpener by John Hinchliffe, Sheffield.
The slender blade is made from strong high-carbon steel, designed for shaping quill pen nibs.
Sterling silver case with repoussé decoration of leaves, vines, and grape motifs. Unmarked but tested as silver.
The base of the blade is stamped ‘J. HINCLIFFE’ together with his beehive trademark.
