Description
Rare large ebony and silver bailiffs walking stick or cane, the best we've found for many years. Not hallmarked but tested as 925. Dated to around 1890 and would have been made in England or in the Indian Colonies. The over size shaft is ebony with the pommel covered in silver that's been left plain bar the engraved initials Wb to the top of the pommel. Inside the silver the top of the cane is loaded with lead to make it not only good to bang on doors at arms length but also give a person a good bop on the head if they didn't pay. Luckily this one doesn't seem to have seen much use. You could really do some damage with this cane. It weighs 720 g, nearly 3/4 kilo, which is extremely heavy but it's also nearly twice as think on the shaft as a normal cane. I've included a picture to demonstrate. This one is really unusual as it also has a large sold brass ferrule which could also be used to bang doors, I think this is why the silver has no dents and has survived in such fabulous condition. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
measurements
It measures 89.5 cm 35 1/4 inches in length, the pommel is 4 cm 1 9/16 inches wide and 6 cm 2 3/8 inches long.
