Description
An extremely rare pair of York silver basting or stuffing spoons. These handsome examples are in fiddle pattern and have script initials to the top fronts. The York Assay Office had a chequered history, starting on the mid 1500s and having a number of closures during the years. It finally closed permanently in 1858 and its silver today is among the most sought after of the English Provincial Assay Offices.
A surviving pair of these spoons is quite a find and they were assayed the year before the final closure of the office, making them interesting to collectors.
