A fun and quirky pearlware Staffordshire pottery spill vase by John Walton, c.1820. Formed as a castle turret set on a large grassy mound atop a red brick bridge. A babbling stream runs underneath with a little rowing boat moored up. Decorated in the round with shredded clay vegetation. The "Walton" banner mark is to the reverse.

Condition is excellent with no damage, repair or restoration bar a small scrape to the glaze at the start of the "Walton" banner and a few minor losses to the shredded clay. The enamels are lovely and bright with minimal handling wear.
