Rare and beautiful Scottish hallmarked solid silver 1/2 pint tankard or christening mug. Full Glasgow hallmark with the date letter for 1882 and the makers mark for James Rait of Smith and Rait. 34 Buchaman Street Glasgow. They were jewellers and silversmiths who held a Royal Warrent. Stunning design and shape with a stepped pedestal foot decorated with repousse flute work to the base and the lower section of the mug. The repousse decoration around the top rim is in the Gothic Revival style with a marking style handle. The silver weight is 145 grams Apologies for any reflections in the pictures, these are not marks in the silver. No engraving to any part of the mug. Will be delivered in a tissue lined gift box. Stands 4 1/4 inches 10.8 cm tall to the top of the handle, 3 3/4 inches 9.5 cm tall to the mug rim, 2 3/4 inches 7 cm in diameter at the top rim and 4 inches 10 cm handle to rim.
