I hope to show case a small selection of Celtic jewellery, silver and bijouterie.
Mainly Scottish , Irish, Welsh, Brittany, Scandinavia and the Celtic people worldwide, to include what is generally considered to be Celtic design from non Celtic countries.
This is a rare and stunningly different antique Scottish hard stone brooch in the form of a 3D dinghy with oars, in the first photograph it does appear to be a full, but model boat, it is a type of optical illusion as it is no wider than 0.8 cm.
Along the side of the boat just below the strake are 3 thin sections of agate, jasper, bloodstone and grey banded agate, to the bow is "G.R. & Co.", I assume the maker and to the stern a diamond kite mark for the year 1865, this is when the design was registered not when the brooch was made which was possibly not long after that as I can recollect only ever seeing one of theses previously.
Inscribed to the reverse with "Saucy Kipper"; 2.5 x 1.0 inch and that includes the oars. Well detailed and modeled to the front the back is plain.
As normal, with nearly all Scottish jewellery of this period, there no hallmark, that it has makers mark is very rare.
All is good, cleaned but not polished.
