Description
An authentic early 20th-century Ruskin Pottery brooch, this piece features a high-fired ceramic cabochon with a mesmerizing, mottled glaze of deep chocolate brown and oxidized teal. The oval plaque is set within a minimalist, hand-finished bezel mount of polished silver-coloured metal, reflecting the restrained elegance of the Arts and Crafts movement. The reverse of the ceramic is clearly impressed with the "RUSKIN" studio mark, a hallmark of the renowned pottery founded by William Howson Taylor in Smethwick, England. This brooch serves as a wearable piece of British art history, showcasing the unique, experimental glaze techniques that made Ruskin Pottery a favourite of prestigious retailers like Liberty & Co. during the Edwardian and Art Deco eras.
