Description
Clockwise presents to you another lovely Scottish Georgian longcase clock. This one comes from the eminent maker Rovert Beveridge who is recorded as working in Newburgh and Kirkaldy on the east coast of Scotland from 1781-1843. The solid oak case which is typical of this area of Scotland is partly inlaid and in lovely condition with a glorious patina. The clock stands on original bracket feet with ebonised inlay to the base and boxwood/ebonised inlay to the trunk which has quarter reeded columns flanking the trunk door. The hood is adorned by the original decorative pediment and three brass finials and the opening brass bezel is also original. The beautifully restored 13 inch dial has both a working date and seconds hand subsidiary dial and the maker's name and location is present. Original brass hands provide the finishing touch. The falseplate is stamped 'Wilson'; James Wilson is one of the best known English dialmakers and was based in Birmingham until his death in 1809. The rack-striking eight day anchor escapement movement has just been serviced with new lines fitted and the clock comes with original weights and a beautiful-sounding bell to strike the full hours. 'Beveridge Fecit' is stamped to both the front and back plate of the movement. This clock is a rare style and also a beautiful piece of furniture. Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.
