A set of six Georgian mahogany dining chairs, dating to circa 1800 and made in the Sheraton style, comprising four dining chairs and a pair of open armchairs (carvers). The chairs reflect the restrained character typical of Sheraton-influenced design, with clean lines, balanced proportions, gently arched backs, and hand-carved splats, giving the set an elegant but understated appearance. The open armchairs are fitted with simply shaped arm rails, while the dining chairs retain a lighter, more restrained profile. All six chairs stand on square, tapering legs united by H-stretchers, providing strength and stability while maintaining the clarity of the design. Provincial in character, the set is well made and of pleasing, practical proportions, making it well suited for use as a dining suite. The chairs have been re-upholstered and are very serviceable, offering good comfort for everyday use while allowing the quality of the mahogany frames and their naturally developed surface to remain the focus.
