Description
This is a fantastic set of twelve matching solid sterling silver dinner forks, assayed in the York Assay Office. York Assay Office closed in 1857 which leaves silver with the corresponding hallmarks increasingly rare. These dinner forks are very clearly hallmarked for York 1836, just at the end of the reign of William IV. The maker's marks are for James Barber & William North. There is an initial on the reverse of each finials and the forks are in the fiddle pattern.
