Silver Pocket Watch Chain Photograph Fob 1890 Victorian Shell Cameo Keepsake

Victorian Gentleman's solid silver (professionally XRF tested but sadly not hallmarked as many items from this era were not so selling as white metal) ornate natural shell carved cameo photograph/keepsake locket fob. C ~1890s. (Please excuse all the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures - was extremely difficult to photograph). Similar to the fobs I have supplied to Pinewood Studios. Measures; 3.6cm height (including the top ring), 2.1cm width, 1.1cm depth and weighs 4.8 grams. Wonderful chunky little silver fob which is adorned to the front with a large oval convex shaped natural carved shell cameo (measures 2cm x 1.6cm) held securely in a wide silver mount depicting an attractive maiden surrounded by an unusual engine turned swirl decoration - reflects the light beautifully. The back has a hinged oval shaped compartment which still retains the original glass (not acrylic), opens up correctly, closing tightly with a very reassuring click and the hinge to side is true and firm with absolutely no play. These keepsake fobs were very popular with the Victorians to hold a little lock of hair from a loved one. Big secure silver top ring to attach to a Gentleman's pocket watch chain. Excellent clean and bright condition with just a little bit of very light overall wear/patina and fine little surface scratches commensurate with age.
