Small English Aesthetic Period Wall-hanging Cabinet in Japanese Style
Secure Payments By
This delightful and unusual little cabinet is crafted from Mahogany and very much in the Victorian Aesthetic period "Japonesque" style, dating it to about 1885. It has a central cupboard with a fretwork door with a design of chrysanthemums in a pot, and side panels with shelves in front and a related design. Below the side panels are stylised rising suns and along the top is a balustraded shelf. There are no shelves in the cupboard (and never have been), which has a small knob on the door but no catch. The shelves and cupboard are fixed to the back panel with small brass screws. Currently the cabinet is hanging on the wall held up by two non-attached wall pins. The image with the 18th century oriental style English porcelain gives an impression of how nice the cabinet can look when displaying suitable small objects. Small oriental antiques would also look great. A lovely authentic piece.
Length 40.5 cm, maximum height 37 cm, depth of cupboard 6.5 cm , maximum depth of shelves 8.5 cm
