Description
A typical Sussex made longcase clock dating to the early-mid 19th Century. It has a solid mahogany case with a flat top hood, a long door and a shaped plinth. The decorative 12 inch hand painted dial has a subsidiary seconds dial and subsidiary date dial with fine engraved and pierced brass hands. It is signed by the maker, Kemp of Mayfield. H. Kemp is listed as working in 1855, although the Kemp family were operating in a number of Sussex towns at that time. It has a 30 hour duration movement that sounds the hours on a bell.
