Description
Staffordshire Figure of 'Uncle Tom' with Eva. This figure is the one illustrated on page 26 of the Shire Guide to Staffordshire Figures by Frances Bryant. A signed copy of which will be included with the figure.
Following the popularity of the American Christian Emancipation novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe this beautifully hand painted figure shows Eva perched on Tom's knee. The overglaze colours are carefully painted and the figure captures the affection between Tom and Eva very well . 'Uncle Tom' is embossed in raised lettering on the base of the figure.
The novel 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' was important in arousing much sympathy for the slaves in the Southern States in the American civil war.
We welcome any questions or enquiries regarding the figure. Please message us and we will be delighted to help.
