Description
Victorian Staffordshire pottery flatback figure group spill vase. This features a dog dragging a boy from a river, this would have been made to celebrate a then current news story or a fable. They were made to sit on a mantle shelf with their back to the wall. The front is all hand painted, but they did not bother with the back as no one would ever look at it.
Spills were tapers used to light candles, cigarettes etc. A stock of them were always kept handy. This is 8.25 inches tall.
