Description
This handsome Staffordshire spaniel was made from earthenware as a mantle ornament in the time of Queen Victoria, who was particularly fond of the dogs. The spaniel is depicted seated wearing a collar and chain. It has been beautifully hand painted in overglaze enamels.

Wessex House Antiques has clarified that the Staffordshire Seated Spaniel c.1860 (LA128983) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1860
condition
The spaniel has no restoration or chips, there are some minor areas where the overglaze paints are wearing and showing the white glaze beneath and there are very fine glazing cracks, both of these are commonly found in Staffordshire from this period. Please inspect the photographs closely to assess the condition and quality of this attractive figure.
