An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique George Iv English sterling silver nutmeg grater; an addition to our silver boxes collection This impressive antique George Iv sterling silver nutmeg grater has an elliptic cylinder form. The surface of the nutmeg grater is plain and embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of depicting out of a ducal coronet a griffin's head. The upper rim of the container is encompassed with an applied moulded border. The hinged hallmarked cover is embellished with the aforementioned crest to the plateau and opens to reveal the steel grating grille. The underside of the box bears a secondary hallmarked flush hinged cover which allows access to the grated nutmeg; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of the piece. This impressive antique silver nutmeg grater, crafted by the Birmingham silversmith Joseph Willmore, is a large example for its type.
