A pretty late Regency porcelain teacup and saucer in the London or Grecian shape. Painted with a stylised oriental scene of a garden with rocks, a small fence and flowering plants, lotus and bamboo. Painted in a kakiemon type palette with underglaze blue, pale blue, soft iron red, green and turquoise enamel and bold gilt accents. Finished with a gilt and underglaze blue patterned border and gilt handle. A paired down version of the scene runs as a frieze to the outside of the cup. This pattern is also seen on Charles Bourne pieces under pattern number 233. Unmarked, most probably Ridgway, c.1820.
measurements
The cup measures 9cm (3 9/16") wide and 5.6cm (2 3/16") high and the saucer measures 13.6cm (5 3/8") wide.
