A gorgeous early 19th century large porcelain sugar box and cover of bombe shape with raised side handles and domed cover with squared, pagoda shaped knop. Opulently decorated with rich, mazarine blue borders with large shaped reserves well painted in bright enamels with sprays of garden flowers and trailing gilt flowering vines. The blue ground is over gilded with stars, tear drops, scrolls and small rings and Greek key type shapes coming off small squared reserves shaded with peach enamel. The shoulders of the bowl are decorated with a stylised gilt design and the rims, handles and knop are also all gilded. Made by John & William Ridgway, c.1820. Pattern number 2/739 painted to the underside in red enamel.
